Kanapaha Botanical Gardens (Gainesville, FL)
Natures bounty abound…
The Kanapaha Botanical Gardens boast one of the largest collections of Camellias and Bamboo plants in the Southeastern United States. Spanning over 62 acres in rural Gainesville, not far from the esteemed University of Florida, the garden is home to over 150 different species of fauna and flora.
Mystic Forest…
There is peaceful reprieve from typical workday within Kanapaha’s Bamboo Garden. With both running and clumping bamboo, the garden is transformed into a forest. Thick, visually impenetrable bamboo walls obscure the sight lines from the rest of the gardens while the canopy overhead envelops the senses, leaving only streaks of sunlight and the rhythmic swaying of the stalks to be seen and heard.
A Day for Camellias…
Well technically it’s a two day event but nevertheless, over a January weekend, the gardens hold a Camellia Show where award-winning Camellia plants are judged for their winter bloom.
